Concrete and Steel:
Look at Hull in a new way with Will Slater
You’ve probably seen all the usual photos of Hull. The Minster, The Deep, the fountains in Queen Victoria Square, that street with the nice coloured houses.
That’s not what this workshop is about.
Will’s photography is all about finding geometry and patterns in the hard lines and angles of modern architecture; searching for beauty and flow in the ugly slabs of concrete that get ignored in favour of more traditionally pretty buildings.
On this workshop you’ll take a walk around Hull, visiting some lesser photographed locations where Will will talk you through how he would go about framing and shooting his photographs before giving you the opportunity to let your own creativity take over. Hopefully by the end of the morning you’ll be looking at every city you visit with fresh eyes.
All you need to bring with you is yourself and a camera – and it doesn’t matter what camera. Will shoots mostly on a mirrorless Panasonic with 20mm prime lens, but anything from a mobile phone to a Nikon D5 will be fine. No need for a tripod, or lots of lenses – this workshop is about how to look differently, we won’t be talking about f-stops or focal lengths.
